3 Days Desert Trip From Fes to Marrakech via Merzouga itinerary

 

Day 1 : Fes – Azrou – Ziz Valley – Merzouga camel excursion – night in Desert

Pick up at 08:00 in the morning from your accommodation in Fez and drive to Merzouga Desert pass through Ifrane, a winter ski resort in a totally non Moroccan style built by the French in the 1930′s to resemble a Swiss village; we visit the cedars forest in Azrou you will see the monkeys , drive across the Middle Atlas Mountains. Most of the day will be spent winding your way through the beautiful forests, springs, jagged rock faces, and Berber villages as you cross the Atlas Mountains and begin to descend towards the Sahara Desert. Half way, you will stop for lunch in the town of Midelt, famous for its fossils and rocks, then we continue towards Merzouga in the road we will stop in a panoramic views to see the a huge oasis of palm tree we reach to Merzouga in the afternoon, when you arrive you will have a rest and a mint tea, your guide and camels will be waiting for you, after rest, you will start a camel trekking across the sandy dunes of the erg-chebbi. Camel trek across a desert landscape, you will enjoy the beauty of the sunset on camel, after 2 hours you will reach to the desert camp to spend night in a berber tent. At your desert shelter, your camels are hobbled and mint tea is served. After a wonderful dinner, there will be a camp fire and drums playing, dinner and overnight in berber tent

 

Day 2 : Camel ride back to Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Gorges

In the morning you can get up early, take a walk over the sand dunes and watch the sunrise from just behind the Algerian border, which is about 50 km from Merzouga. We take camel back to the hotel. You will take shower and eat breakfast and relax; you will be given the opportunity to take nice pictures  Then we take the road toward the gorges. Depart along the road used by the Paris Dakar rally. We will reach a cave where you can discover how the local people extract the fossils from the heart of the earth we stop to visit Rissani, the town where the Alaouite dynasty established (now ruling in morocco). Along the way you will see: the monument historic of Sijilmassa the big center of desert trade, the Kasbahs (village fortify) in the area of Rissani there is more than 350 kasbah, Mosulement of Moulay Ali Charif (the founder of Alaouite dynasty),musem of lfida ,the souq, the big market of the area. Then we continue passing through the ziz valley and gorges ,we will have a walk in gorge Todra to enjoy the beauty of rivers and mountains, we reach to Dades gorge, diner and over night in a nice and traditional Kasbahs.

 

Day 3 : Dades Gorges – Ouarzazate – Ait ben Haddou – Marrakech

After breakfast you will have a walk in the gorges to enjoy the beauty of the mountains, then we stop to visit the town of Ouarzazate, the Kasbah of Taourirt and the Atlas Studios movie studios, the largest and most famous of all Africa. From here we head to the Fint Oasis, near Ouarzazate. We then take the Tizi-n-Tichka road stopping for lunch in a small village. We will then reach Marrakech in the late afternoon for the end of the tour .
